# Castlevania: Belmont's Curse Story: Rose Belmont in Paris, 1499

**Castlevania: Belmont's Curse** is set in medieval Paris in **1499**, 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, and follows **Rose Belmont**, the daughter of Trevor Belmont and the late Sypha Belnades, as Dracula's castle manifests in the heart of the burning city.

> **Spoiler policy:** this page uses only Konami's official material and the opening covered by the free demo. Anything after the first boss is left out, and the one section with demo-level spoilers is marked.

## The premise

Konami's official introduction is titled “Medieval Paris, Where the Tolling Bells Herald the End”. In 1499, Paris is engulfed in flames as monstrous creatures suddenly emerge from the shadows, and a looming castle, Dracula's castle, has manifested directly in the heart of the city. Trevor Belmont, the hero who defeated Dracula, ventures into the burning streets with his daughter, Rose, armed with the legendary holy whip, the **Vampire Killer**, to hunt down the beasts pouring out of the castle. Rose is soon swept up in a dark conspiracy lurking beneath the city.

The game's tagline sets the tone: “Crimson Curse — Will Your Fate Bloom in Despair or Salvation”. Konami describes the game as one that “depicts the growth of Rose Belmont”, so this is a coming-of-age story as much as a monster hunt: a young hunter inheriting both her family's duty and a curse that is literally part of her body.

## Who is Rose Belmont?

Rose is the new protagonist and the playable character. She is the daughter of Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades, born shortly before her mother died, and she **bears Dracula's curse in her right arm**. Trevor trained her as his successor, the next vampire hunter of the Belmont line. Unlike most Belmonts, she wields a variety of weapons in addition to her whip. She is voiced in English by Abby Trott.

Previews add a human touch to that setup. RPGFan's Tokyo Game Show preview describes an older Trevor who believes Rose is well trained and capable but worries whether she is ready to take on the family trade without him, given the strange curse eating away at her. Impulse Gamer notes that Trevor is not playable in the preview build; Rose is the one you control.

## Trevor and Sypha: the family history

The family's story starts in **Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse** (1989), set in 1476. There, Trevor Belmont fought Dracula alongside companions including Sypha Belnades, a vampire hunter who fights with magic and married Trevor by the end of the game, and Dracula's son Alucard. Konami's character profiles pick up from there: Dracula, the immortal vampire king, was defeated by Trevor and his companions, but **three years later he temporarily resurrected**, the events of Castlevania: Curse of Darkness (set in 1479), revealing that his soul was indestructible.

Sypha fought alongside Trevor 23 years before the game, but fell victim to Dracula's curse and died soon after Rose was born. Konami says her loss left a lasting shadow over father and daughter, which makes the curse in Rose's arm more than a gameplay mechanic: it is the thing that killed her mother. Twenty years after Dracula's brief return, darkness begins to stir again in Paris, and that is where Belmont's Curse begins. Trevor is voiced by JB Blanc, and Sypha by Alejandra Reynoso.

## Why Paris?

Trevor comes because Paris asks. The local bishop calls on the Belmonts after the city is overrun, and Konami describes Trevor and Rose travelling down the River Seine in response. The setting is a big part of the game's identity: its non-linear map covers both Dracula's castle and the surrounding districts of Paris, so the city itself is part of the labyrinth. Konami's trailer copy shows Rose fighting **beneath the catacombs of Paris** as well as through the castle's halls, and RPG Site's review mentions the blood-soaked Catacombs of Paris and a Clock Tower ascent.

## The opening (demo spoilers)

> This section describes the first boss and what he reveals. Skip to the next heading if you want to discover the demo yourself.

Trevor and Rose split up when they reach Paris: Trevor goes to meet the bishop while Rose investigates deeper into the city. In the underground reservoir and sewers, she finds an enchanted doorway blocking her path and is attacked by **The Fallen**, a mysterious monster who wants her soul. When she defeats him, his soul is purified and sealed into one of the tarot cards Sypha gave Rose before she died.

From inside the card, The Fallen explains that he was sent with **two other guardians** by an unknown master, who ordered them to kill innocents and bring their souls to the Parisian catacombs. The other two guardians hold the remaining keys Rose needs to open the way forward. After that, The Fallen stays with her as a voice in her head. Previews describe him as mysterious and still hostile, and Rose is not a fan, while Nintendo World Report's review says these exchanges between Rose and the souls she captures add levity and charm.

## Who else appears

Konami's official character page lists several more figures, most of them as bosses. **Joan of Arc** is the French heroine who received a divine revelation and played a prominent role in the Hundred Years' War; Wikipedia's summary suggests she played a major part in a war between vampire hunters and the forces of darkness. **Carmilla**, a renowned vampire, waits for Rose in Dracula's castle. **Medusa**, with the body of a giant serpent, has turned countless people to stone with her gaze. **Isaac**, a devil forgemaster who creates and commands demons, has a history with Trevor dating back 20 years. **Death**, Dracula's right hand, carries a scythe that can slice through space itself. And Count **Dracula** himself is part of the cast, voiced by Graham McTavish. Full profiles are on the [characters page](https://castlevaniabelmontscurse.net/characters).

## Links to the animated series

Two actors reprise their roles from the Netflix Castlevania series (2017–2021), which adapted Dracula's Curse: Alejandra Reynoso as Sypha and Graham McTavish as Dracula. Konami's own description places the game “over two decades after the events of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse and the recent animated show”. Whether the game treats the animated series as part of its continuity is **not confirmed as of 2026-10-14**; the safest reading is that it follows the original game timeline, which is how Wikipedia describes it.

## Do you need to play older games first?

No. Belmont's Curse introduces its characters on its own terms, and the opening explains who Trevor, Rose and Sypha are. Knowing Dracula's Curse and Curse of Darkness adds weight to Trevor's backstory and to Isaac's grudge, but the game does not require it. If you want the bigger picture, the [Castlevania timeline page](https://castlevaniabelmontscurse.net/timeline) shows where 1499 sits between the Belmont generations.

## What is not confirmed yet

- Who the unknown master behind the three guardians is.
- How Joan of Arc fits into the story beyond Konami's short profile.
- Whether Dracula is fought as a boss; Konami lists him as a character, not under bosses.
- Whether there are multiple endings, as in some older entries such as Simon's Quest.
- Whether Trevor is ever playable in the full game; he is not in the preview builds.

All of these are **not confirmed as of 2026-10-14**, and we will not fill them in from rumours. The story is written by Matthew Willis, with direction by Emmanuel Nouaille and Yukiko Hokao. According to RPGFan's preview, dialogue plays out with anime-style character art over the game's layered, hand-painted backdrops.
